New College Leadership Certificate Program
Now in its second year, the New College Leadership Certificate Program offers students the opportunity to explore three key areas; individual growth, group development, and community experience. Through learning and growth in these areas, students will develop the skills to affect change and make an impact.
The certificate is designed for students who are new to leadership as well as those who hold leadership positions. This non-credit certificate program is FREE for all New College students and is meant to supplement the academic experience.
How the program works:

Community Experience
The Community Experience area of the Leadership Certificate is intended as a way for you to take the skills you have learned through the workshops offered in the Individual Growth and Group Development areas of the program. This is done through a practical application called a Citizenship Project. The project can take on many forms, and requires approval before it can be counted. All Citizenship Projects should fit into one of the following three types:
1. An experience you are already involved in as a leader
Example: a role within a student club or student council, a role as a residence don, a role in an external organization.2. A new experience you would like to take on as a leader
Example: ongoing volunteering with a community organization, creating and facilitating a large event, seeking out a topic of interest where leadership skills are put to use.3. Successful completions of the Emerging Leaders program offered through Central Student Life.
Learn more about the Emerging Leaders program and register at: http://uoft.me/learningtolead
The Community Experience should consist of at least ten hours of time and a written submission demonstrating what you have gained from this time. This should include logistical information such as where you were, what you did, how many hours you put towards your experience, and contact information (if applicable). The most important portion of this will be what you feel you have gained from the experience and how you applied the leadership skills you learned through the workshops. There is no minimum or maximum length, but the Community Experience Evaluation should demonstrate what the experience meant to you. If you have additional questions feel free to ask the Office of Student Life for details. (Please note, this component is separate from the reflection in Step 3 of the Leadership Certificate program).
Reflection Project
The reflection project differs from the Community Experience Evaluation in the sense that it is an evaluation of the entire leadership certificate experience. Students are invited to present their experience in any format and medium (written, song, dance, art, speech, performance etc.) to the New College Community in a way that communicates their experience and how it may affect their future.
Our sincere thanks to the Office of Student Life & Leadership for their support on this program.
