At New College, U of T, we’re celebrating World Food Day with 3 days of special events! Join us on Wednesday, October 15, Thursday, October 16, and Friday, October 17 for great speakers, workshops and food on the theme of “Agroecology: The Next New Thing in Food?” Everyone is welcome!

Permaculture Workshop with Toyin Coker

10:00am to 12:00pm

New College Garden, NW corner of Willcocks and Huron

Get your hands in the dirt, and help us plant the New College garden. Learn the techniques of permaculture with Toyin Coker of Permaculture GTA.  Come dressed for gardening! Gloves and tools provided.

 

Farm Panel on Agroecology – the exciting new approach to sustainable food

New College, 40 Willcocks, Wilson Hall Lounge

Join Master Farmers Alvaro Venturelli of Plan B Organic Farm and Damian Adjodha, and learn how this approach can be applied in both rural and urban settings.

 

“Towards Integrative Agroecology in a Changing World”

7:00pm to 9:00pm

New College, Wilson Hall Lounge, 40 Willcocks

A public lecture by Dr. Marney Isaac, Canada Research Chair in Agroecosystems and Development and supervisor of the Isaac Research Group at UTSC. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Come early to sample great food from FoodShare Toronto and ChocoSol Traders, and to meet food leaders from across Toronto.

A panel discussion featuring Dr. Filiberto Penados of the Institute for Sustainable International Studies in Belize and U of T students who joined him in Belize to learn about Indigenous food culture and sustainability. Chocolate provided by ChocoSol Traders.

A panel discussion featuring Dr. Wayne Roberts, food policy expert and New College Visiting Scholar, Dr. Filiberto Penados of the Institute for Sustainable International Studies in Belize, and Toyin Coker of Permaculture GTA. Chocolate provided by ChocoSol Traders.

 

Presented by the New College Initiatives Fund, the Principal’s Innovation Fund, Equity Studies, New One, Caribbean Studies, the New College Office of Residence and Student Life and the Toronto Food Policy Council.
