It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Dr. Chandni Desai to the position of Assistant Professor in Equity Studies (New College) and the Department of Leadership Higher and Adult Education (OISE/UT), 2017-2018.

Dr. Desai, who will be well known to the New College community from previous work, has a wide range of research and teaching interests: transnational youth activism and social movements challenging imperialism, militarism, war, and settler colonialism; cultural resistance; comparative settler colonialism; decolonization; transnational solidarity; critical race theory; anti-imperialist feminism and anticolonial/postcolonial theory. Her accomplishments as a scholar include the 2017 Outstanding Dissertation Award granted by the American Education Research Association (AERA) Division B.

At the moment, Dr. Desai is working on her first book manuscript, titled “We Teach Life,” which examines the racial logics of settler colonialism and empire across geographies through an interdisciplinary analysis of Palestinian cultural-resistance practices and their critical intersections with the tactics of colonial dispossession, warfare and genocide.

In the 2017-2018 academic year, Dr. Desai is teaching the following courses in Equity Studies:

  • NEW340F: Freedom Making: Youth, Activism & Social Change
