Chandni Desai

We are delighted to report that Dr. Chandni Desai has been awarded the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Division B Outstanding Dissertation Award.

Her dissertation “We Teach Life”: Exile, Hip Hop and the Radical Tradition of Palestinian Cultural Resistance was selected because of her exceptional research contributions to the field of curriculum studies, and to education more broadly. The New College Equity Studies Senior Doctoral Fellow for the 2014-2015 academic year and an instructor in the program, Desai completed her PhD at the University of Toronto, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) in 2016. She is currently a Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Social Justice Initiative, where she is working on her book manuscript, and a project called “Geographies of Justice: A Scholarly and Public Dialogue Series about the Contested Terrain and Meaning of Freedom in the 21st Century World” with the renowned historian and black feminist Dr. Barbara Ransby.
