The Stewart Wilson Award was established in New College in 1965 by the Engineering Alumni Association in honour of Lt. Col. W. Stewart Wilson, Assistant Dean and Secretary of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering from 1927 until 1962, and closely associated with New College from its founding in 1962 until his death in September 1966.
Applicants for the award must be registered in the First or Second Year of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering in the current session and be members of New College, either resident or non-resident.
The award is of an amount sufficient to cover the annual residence fee of New College ($15,720 in 2019/20). The award recipient must proceed to the Second or Third Year in Engineering and live in the New College Residence. Candidates will be considered with respect to the following: academic ability, financial need, leadership qualities and contribution to College activities. The donors believe that the student thus selected will benefit from the award and strengthen the life of the College.
Students interested in being considered for this award should complete the application and submit it to the Registrar’s Office, New College by email, firstname.lastname@example.org, no later than March 15, 2020. Applicants are asked to provide details of College, University and community activities (e.g. student government, sports, clubs, societies, etc.) and a statement outlining the reasons why the applicant considers himself or herself qualified to hold this award. In addition, the application must be supported by a letter of reference from a member of the University of Toronto community. (Note: The reference letter should be sent by email directly from the Referee to the Registrar’s Office).
Finalists for this award will be invited to attend an interview in April. The Selection Committee will make the decision in the summer, after the release of the results for the current session. The winning candidate will be notified by July.
