Congratulations to the NEW-est leaders of tomorrow!
Spring 2025 Convocation
Message from Principal Bob Gazzale
To the class of 2025 – congratulations!

Convocation marks a significant moment in every academic journey, recognizing not only your achievements, but also your dedication, strength and growth as you met every challenge. You worked tirelessly in courses, brought energy and enthusiasm to student groups, formed lifelong friendships, and helped build a vibrant community at New College. Your impact on the College will be felt long after you have left the University of Toronto.
Today, savour your accomplishments as you celebrate with loved ones, and acknowledge those whose support was invaluable: parents, family, friends, and fellow students. I encourage you to let them know what this support has meant to you.
Embarking on life’s next chapter, embrace that the journey will be challenging, with uncertainties and moments of doubt. You are prepared for this! Take risks, and do not be afraid to make mistakes. Remember that failure is a necessary step towards success, and that the skills and habits you’ve developed are as important as the knowledge you gained. So, continue to seek opportunities to grow, stay curious, ask questions and most importantly, stay true to yourself and your values.
Today marks your transition from student to alum, joining a dynamic community of over 34,460 New College graduates spread across Canada and the globe, whose achievements continue to both impress and inspire. We encourage you to stay connected and never forget that we will always be here to welcome you back home.
On behalf of New College faculty, staff and community, we wish you the absolute best and hope this is a memorable day for you and all who supported you in your academic journey. The future belongs to you, Class of 2025. Congratulations!
Sincerely,
Bob Gazzale
Principal

“Vain attempts to imitate others you will no longer make. Instead, place your uniqueness on display in the marketplace.
You are rare, and there is value in all rarity; therefore, you are valuable. You are the end product of thousands of years of evolution.
You are not on this earth by chance. You are here for a purpose, and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand. Henceforth, apply all your efforts to become the highest mountain of all and strain your potential until it cries for mercy.
You have been given eyes to see and a mind to think, and now you know a great secret of life for you perceive, at last, that all problems, discouragements, and heartaches are, in truth, great opportunities in disguise. You will no longer be fooled by the garments they wear, for your eyes are open.
You are Nature’s Greatest Miracle!!
For why should the miracle which produced you end with your birth? Why can you not extend that miracle to your deeds of today?
You are Nature’s Greatest Miracle!!”
(paraphrased passage from Og. Mandino’s I Am Nature’s Greatest Miracle, The Scroll Marked IV.)
Today marks the culmination of years of hard work, perseverance, and growth. You’ve faced challenges, learned lessons, and emerged stronger. As you step into the next chapter of your journey, remember to enjoy the journey. Life isn’t just about reaching destinations; it’s about appreciating the moments along the way. Celebrate your victories, learn from setbacks, and find joy in the process. “Last man standing”, success comes through endurance and perseverance. You have the power to shape your future!
