Diversity is a keynote of the residence. Upper-year and first-year students live side-by-side. All have the opportunity to participate in house and residence government and to take part in the planning of a variety of social, recreational and educational events. The students at New come from a variety of cultures and backgrounds, which often leads to the establishment of life-long friendships. Your friends will be students from every undergraduate faculty, so you will enjoy a rich and diverse social and academic life. New College is non-denominational and is committed to fostering a community living and learning experience that values differences while promoting tolerance and equality.

The strength of the residence community depends on the individual actions and interactions of each of its members. The College recognizes and affirms the right of all residents to a pleasant, safe, clean, and reasonably quiet environment free from nuisance and disturbance. The houses in the three residence halls frequently organize parties and outings. Many special events are planned by the Residence Council and Residence Office, such as Coffee Houses in which students may showcase their talent, inter-house sports, pumpkin-carving, “Secret Santa”, the Holiday Dinner, movie and ice cream nights, a Spring Semi-Formal, our multicultural showcase, Mosaic and many more. Those with an interest in music enjoy membership in the Residence Music Club which includes access to the practice rooms (complete with pianos).

Residents also participate fully in College student activities organized by the New College Residence Council, the New College Student Council and other groups.
