Fall/Winter Housing Guarantee
Residence is guaranteed for all new full-time students entering their first year of university in an undergraduate program for the first time, provided they have indicated their interest in residence by completing the University of Toronto’s Residence Guarantee application (StarRez) by March 31st and have received and accepted an offer of admission by the OUAC deadline (usually in early June).
Students must respond to all deadlines and meet all deposit requirements in order to maintain their guaranteed status. If space is no longer available at New College, applicants will be offered accommodation in a residence where places are still available.
First-year students who do not qualify for the housing guarantee should contact Housing Services to inquire about alternate housing and the central residence waiting list.
Please note that ranking New College as your first choice does not guarantee you a spot in our Residence.
New College Arts & Science Students
Official offers of residence will be emailed to eligible students in weekly rounds starting in early June and must be completed by the deadline provided. All information pertaining to accepting and confirming one’s residence offer will be provided in this email. Please see below for more details regarding email correspondence with New College.
Professional Faculty Students
Our priority is to house New College Arts & Science students with the residence guarantee. Depending on space available come mid-July, a formal offer of accommodation will then be e-mailed to a select few Professional Faculty students.
Email Correspondence
The Office of Residence and Student Life (ORSL) corresponds with students via email (to the address indicated on the student’s OUAC application). Please follow these guidelines to ensure that admission correspondence is received:
- Check your email regularly
- Ensure that folders where messages may be diverted to are checked (i.e. junk or trash)
- Set email filters to accept all messages from ‘utoronto.ca’ accounts
- Notify ORSL immediately if you will not have email access for any period
- If your email address should change, please update it on your OUAC application (pre-admission) or https://join.utoronto.ca/ (post-admission) immediately
All correspondence will be sent to the email address you have registered on ACORN. Ensure that emails from new.residence@utoronto.ca are replied to promptly as offers have a strict deadline.
