In Memoriam: Professor Emeritus H. Chandler Davis

It is with deep sadness that New College shares the news of the passing of Professor Chandler Davis on September 24, 2022. Chandler was a Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto in the Department of Mathematics, a pre-eminent mathematician, activist, author, poet, and a valued and respected member of the New College community.

During his illustrious career, Chandler was Vice President of the American Mathematical Society, a determined advocate for organizations such as Science for Peace, and Editor-in-Chief of The Mathematical Intelligencer, which he spent many hours working on from his New College office. We would like to offer our sincerest condolences to Chandler’s wife Natalie Zemon Davis, his children Aaron, Hannah, and Simone, and all his many friends and family.
