Giving Day 2025: Let’s Make a big Difference for NEW!

On March 26, New College and the entire University of Toronto community will come together in celebration of Giving Day — an annual opportunity to make a big difference through the power of generosity!
U of T Giving Day is a 24-hour fundraising campaign and a heartfelt celebration of our vibrant community who drive our university forward.
From February 26 to March 26, every gift to featured funds counts toward U of T Giving Day’s impact. Thanks to matching gifts, donations have an even bigger impact on students and researchers!
Since U of T’s inaugural Giving Day in 2023, more than 2,500 community members have come together to support over 90 initiatives across our three campuses, uplifting programs that champion accessibility, equity, diversity, and inclusion — helping students achieve their dreams.
Our achievements reflect the strength of our community — alumni, students, faculty, staff, donors and friends. Every contribution, no matter the size, has the power to transform lives.

We are thrilled to introduce New College’s Giving Day Ambassador, Kalsoom Shahzad — a fourth year Honours BSc student, scholarship recipient and student leader.
Kalsoom is proudly representing NEW in all of our Giving Day communications, helping to promote this incredible opportunity to create a more inclusive and inspiring future for everyone in our community.
The recipient of several scholarships from New College, Kalsoom says donor support has made a big difference during her time at NEW.
“Donor support has had a very profound impact on my life,” she says. “The scholarships I received have helped support my academic success while also giving me an opportunity to participate in experiential learning opportunities and extracurricular activities.”
While pursuing a degree in life sciences, Kalsoom has served as a BIPOC Commuter Advisor at NEW and has actively served on the New College Student Council, representing the voices, needs and experiences of commuter and off-campus students. She is also the founder and president of The Green Team, a youth-led community initiative dedicated to advancing environmental sustainability.

“Without the resources and support that U of T has provided me, I would not have been able to thrive and succeed in the way that I did,” she says. “I would not be where I am today without the resources, support and community belonging that U of T and NEW have provided me.”
Please join us in breaking down barriers to a world-leading education for more incredible students like Kalsoom by donating today!
Ways to Participate at NEW in 2025 Giving Day:
Here at New College, Giving Day is a chance to inspire the strength and impact of a NEW education! We invite anyone in our community to donate in support of one or more of our three priority funds:
- New College Scholarships and Awards, which help ensure all NEW students can access the support they need to start or complete their education.
- New College Annual Fund, which supports the delivery of an unparalleled educational experience for generations to come.
- The David Clandfield Award in Scholarly Activism, awarded annually to students enrolled in the Critical Studies in Equity and Solidarity Program.
Every dollar up to $1,000 will be fully matched while matching funds last, doubling your gift and your impact!
