Come and get your stretch on in this beginner-level yoga class! Hosted by MoveU, this yoga session will have you feeling uplifted and loose, and it is a great energizer to begin your day.
Succeeding at University Level Research and Writing | 11:00AM – 12:00PM EST
Your university writing assignments will be very different from those you wrote in high school. Less descriptive and more analytic, these assignments require a careful synthesis of academic research. In addition, the format and expectations differ widely across various fields of study. In this workshop, learn about the key differences between high school and university writing so that you are prepared for success from your very first assignment!
Core Skills: Time Management | 12:30PM – 1:30PM EST
In this session, you will learn about different strategies to apply when managing time at UofT. Tips include drawing deadlines from syllabus and applying them to calendars, making time for more than academics, and seeking supports on time.

Do you want to meet some of the other students who may be in your courses and programs? Come on down to our Meet Your Program event to get to know some of the faces (well, at least the upper parts of their faces) you’ll be seeing on the first day of classes! Feel free to discuss what you’re looking forward to in the upcoming school year, and get to know one another, since it’s not always easy to find someone to sit next to (remember to socially distance) on the first day!

This tour is all-inclusive and covers everything that in-person campus tours do not. Readings lists, citations, and bibliographies. Oh my! Some of these concepts may be new and scary but have no fear! This session will teach you how to use the UofT Libraries website to find books, peer-reviewed articles and other materials you need to be successful in your classes.

Like food? Who doesn’t?! Join our amazing Exec members turned chefs for this fun and simple tutorial on meal prep. They will also be discussing their favourite places to eat on campus on a student budget. Questions about food related topics are more than welcome.

Acquaint yourself with some methods for navigating a large quantity of course readings and become skilled at critically integrating readings into your written assignments, tests, and class discussions in the process. We’ll introduce you to strategies for working efficiently with readings and taking effective notes from them.

Join your fellow NewCs and some local Special Olympic athletes in this virtual workout session hosted by MotionballU. This full body workout will have you feeling stronger, more confident, energized, and happy. Come get your sweat on!

Citing, Quoting and Paraphrasing | 12:00PM – 1:00PM EST
In this session, you will learn how to integrate and properly document multiple sources of information in your writing while distinguishing your own thinking from the ideas you read in books and articles. You will learn the difference between a proper and improper paraphrase and find out where to get more information on various citation systems. Avoiding plagiarism is one component of learning to become a researcher in our fields; we think critically with sources and use them carefully to further the goals of our own writing.
