Tuesday, August 31 

New Movement | 10:00AM – 11:00AM EST

Come and get your stretch on in this beginner-level yoga class! Hosted by MoveU, this yoga session will have you feeling uplifted and loose, and it is a great energizer to begin your day.

Succeeding at University Level Research and Writing | 11:00AM – 12:00PM EST

Your university writing assignments will be very different from those you wrote in high school. Less descriptive and more analytic, these assignments require a careful synthesis of academic research. In addition, the format and expectations differ widely across various fields of study. In this workshop, learn about the key differences between high school and university writing so that you are prepared for success from your very first assignment!

Core Skills: Time Management | 12:30PM – 1:30PM EST

In this session, you will learn about different strategies to apply when managing time at UofT. Tips include drawing deadlines from syllabus and applying them to calendars, making time for more than academics, and seeking supports on time.

Meet Your Program | 6:00PM – 8:00PM EST

Do you want to meet some of the other students who may be in your courses and programs? Come on down to our Meet Your Program event to get to know some of the faces (well, at least the upper parts of their faces) you’ll be seeing on the first day of classes!  Feel free to discuss what you’re looking forward to in the upcoming school year, and get to know one another, since it’s not always easy to find someone to sit next to (remember to socially distance) on the first day!

New Views: Virtual Campus Tour | 10:00AM – 12:00PM EST

Would you like to see what our campus looks like? Experience a guided virtual tour of campus relayed to you by upper-year students! This tour is all-inclusive and covers everything that in-person campus tours do not. Be sure to pay close attention because following the virtual tour there will be a scavenger hunt with the chance to win prizes!

Get it Online! Using the Library to Find Your Course Readings | 12:00PM – 1:30PM EST

Readings lists, citations, and bibliographies. Oh my! Some of these concepts may be new and scary but have no fear! This session will teach you how to use the UofT Libraries website to find books, peer-reviewed articles and other materials you need to be successful in your classes.

NEWtritious Dishes | 6:00PM – 7:00PM EST

Like food? Who doesn’t?! Join our amazing Exec members turned chefs for this fun and simple tutorial on meal prep. They will also be discussing their favourite places to eat on campus on a student budget. Questions about food related topics are more than welcome.

Bake ‘n’ Debate | 7:00PM – 8:00PM EST

A follow up to NEWtritious Dishes, this event is a kick back where our Execs-turned-bakers make a simple dessert and debate some hot topics!

5 Ways to Wellbeing | 10:00AM – 12:00PM EST

In this workshop, learn tips and tricks to stay well while at university!

Reading Efficiently and Effectively | 12:00PM – 1:00PM EST

Acquaint yourself with some methods for navigating a large quantity of course readings and become skilled at critically integrating readings into your written assignments, tests, and class discussions in the process. We’ll introduce you to strategies for working efficiently with readings and taking effective notes from them.

Motionball Virtual Workout | 1:00PM – 2:00PM EST

Join your fellow NewCs and some local Special Olympic athletes in this virtual workout session hosted by MotionballU. This full body workout will have you feeling stronger, more confident, energized, and happy. Come get your sweat on!

Strike a Pose | 6:00PM – 7:00PM EST

Tell your story through the legendary movement of voguing. Join us for an all-levels dance class where you learn the 5 elements of vogue dance – catwalk, duck walk, hand performance, floor performance, and spins and dips. Led by Toronto’s own Legendary Snoopy Xlusive Lanvin.

Join us as we talk to the University of Toronto Emergency Food Bank and learn more about the different ways food, poverty, and disempowerment affect us and the people around us. Find out what you can do to help make a real change.

Find out some of the various food options, restaurants, and food places offered on and near campus while you eat the food/drink of your choice. Join us for a fun food tour led by your Peer Leaders and get a chance to meet some of your fellow NewCs!

Video Games Night | 8:00PM – 10:00PM EST

Join us for a late-night viewing of some of New College’s finest gamers having an intense Super Smash. Bros Ultimate tournament! Feel free to watch your fellow incoming students and Peer Leaders duke it out to determine who had earned glory among New College’s best! Snacks will be provided at the event!

Monday, September 6

New College’s Next Top Cheer | 10:00AM – 12:00PM EST

Do you have what it takes to create New College’s Next Top Cheer? Join your friends in your Orientation groups to come up with your best cheer for New College and get your spirits up! Take a first look into what cheers from previous years have looked like and make this year’s Orientation your own by having your team’s cheer go down in history as New College’s Next Top Cheer.

Citing, Quoting and Paraphrasing | 12:00PM – 1:00PM EST

In this session, you will learn how to integrate and properly document multiple sources of information in your writing while distinguishing your own thinking from the ideas you read in books and articles. You will learn the difference between a proper and improper paraphrase and find out where to get more information on various citation systems. Avoiding plagiarism is one component of learning to become a researcher in our fields; we think critically with sources and use them carefully to further the goals of our own writing.

In this session, you will learn about different ways to take notes effectively and make the most of your lecture learning experience.

Pre-UofT | 1:00PM – 2:30PM EST

UofT is a virtual Intercollegiate Orientation event for incoming students from across the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Pre-UofT will introduce you to your program of study, help you learn strategies for success, and connect you with upper year students and faculty in your academic stream. Join one of our five virtual academic streams in Humanities, Social Sciences, Math, and Physical Sciences, Social Science, and Computer Science.

Consent with BK Chan | 3:00PM – 4:00PM EST

In this 60 minute live talk, BK will explore how Consent Culture is a social way of being – it’s about how we relate to each other, not just sexual interactions or intimate touch. What do you need know and do? What kind of support can you get? This talk will show you — openly, honestly, and with a sense of humour.
