A Welcome Message from New College Acting Principal Dickson Eyoh

Dear New College students, faculty, and staff,

Welcome to the new academic year! I am delighted to welcome you to New College – whether it is your first year at U of T, your first full year in-person, or you are a continuing member of our community. The start of a new academic year is always a special time on campus, and never more so than this year. In the coming months, I look forward to meeting many of you in person and to seeing students, faculty, and staff rediscovering and enjoying their favourite places at the College.

It is my honor to lead, on an interim basis, the extraordinary group of students, faculty, and staff at New College. It is such a pleasure to see the energy and vitality returning to our buildings and outdoor spaces. There are so many things that make New college special, including the dedication and commitment to activism, change, and inclusion that can be found throughout our community and which has only been strengthened by the challenges of the previous two years.

Please take some time to explore our new website to learn more about the work we have being doing at New College to enhance student experiences. We have many new and revitalized spaces that we are so excited to see students use and enjoy. Our academic programs continue to develop and flourish, and our students and faculty are leaders of critical dialogue and scholarship at U of T.

Thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly to make a safe return to campus possible, and to those who laid the groundwork to welcome back over 6000 New College students this year. We look forward to continuing to find ways to make New College an innovative, creative, and forward-thinking space, while still ensuring it always feels like home.

As we move into this new semester, please remember that the health and wellbeing of our community members is always our priority. Both the college and the university have many resources available to those who may need assistance. Please reach out if you need help and make time to prioritize your physical, emotional, and mental health needs.

It is my hope that all of you – students, faculty, and staff – will feel inspired, encouraged, and supported at New College, while enjoying a rich and rewarding university experience.

Best wishes for a successful academic year and welcome home to NEW!

Best,

Dickson Eyoh
